The Roebourne Heritage Trail
Roebourne Heritage Trail is a self-guided walk or drive of ranging from 5-13 kilometers. Along the trail, you will see the significant historical sites in the town of Roebourne. Roebourne is Yirrmagardu to the aboriginal people. Roebourne is the oldest town in North West Australia that was settled in 1866. On this trail, you will pass the old Victoria Hotel, the Holy Trinity Church, along with homesteads. Download the trail map here thanks to the city of Karratha. The discovery of gold, copper, and tin in the region made Roebourne an important and prosperous town in the region. Now the restored heritage stone buildings date back to this mining period.
It’s a great trail to explore and get to know the culture and history of Northern Western Australia. The trail provides an insight into early life was for the early settlers and Aboriginal people. The best time to do the walk is in the winter months from May to September when the whole area is in bloom with local wildflowers. The Pilbara wildflowers themselves are a sight to behold.
