The movie gives an insight into life in this Red Country over the past few decades and gives you a chance to glimpse familiar sights.
The History of Red Dog
Red Dog was a wandering dog that made his home in Dampier and grew famous for wandering across the Pilbara and beyond. He was known by a variety of names throughout his life including Bluey, Tally Ho, and Dog of the Northwest. However, his first name Tally Ho was given to him by a man named Colin Cummings. Who is believed to be the first one to bring him to Dampier.
This loyal, red dirt-covered dog was chosen to be the spirit of Dampier after his death. Back in the 1970s, the inhabitants of Dampier worked on the salt flats and mining operations. The legend of Red Dog spread as the vet would always see him come into the office with a different owner. But that is not all, he was supposedly spotted all across the state after hitching rides in cars. As a result, he gained the name of wanderer. Unfortunately, it is thought that he was purposefully poisoned in 1979.
